Who is God?

Clues are in each sunrise. In the melody of musical notes, moving something deep within us. Light streaming through the bold colors of stained glass, painting in the air before our eyes. We recognize Beauty.

Hints are in the devotion of a mother toward her child. The friend who stands by through a trying time. Charity shown to a stranger. The life-long fidelity of a spouse. We recognize Love.

Indications are in the discoveries of science. The universal dignity of the human person. That reality is unchanged by opinion. We recognize Truth.

Signs are in the man who does right unobserved. When justice is secured for the injured. When wisdom trumps profit in judgement. We recognize Goodness.

Beauty. Love. Truth. Goodness. In these moments we see not only the physical reality, but we catch a glimpse of something further. We perceive with an interior sense an unseen reality that is interwoven in an endless Unity. The experience awakens in us a new depth, awakens us to a deeper reality.

Beauty. Love. Truth. Goodness. Unity. Existence itself is measured on the scale of these axes. Ugliness does not so much exist, as beauty degraded. Hate does not so much exist, as love contempted. Lies do not so much exist, as truth contradicted. Bad does not so much exist, as goodness perverted. And Fracture does not so much exist, as unity divided. Where there is no possibility of corruption, evil cannot exist.

Who is God? He is Who is. If we trace Beauty, Love, Truth, and Goodness back to their source, we find them fulfilled and united in Him. Being itself has its source in Him, and He holds all that is, in existence.

"Then Moses said to God, 'If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, "The God of your fathers has sent me to you," and they ask me, "What is his name?" what shall I say to them?' God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.' And he said, 'Say this to the people of Israel, "I AM has sent me to you."'" (Exodus 3:13-14 RSV)
