The Devil can't DeliverThe devil can't deliver-he hasn't got the goods. Sin is a delight to the eyes, and promises that which we are intended to have. Once taken, though, we find its promise empty, and that we're even further from our intended end. In the place of freedom, we find bondage; in the place of joy, we find despair. All the devil can do is promise what God alone can provide. But he doesn't have the sources, and can therefore offer only counterfeit goods, not the real deal. His deception is that we can take for ourselves what can only be received from God. How can we be so tricked? We do not trust God's love as we should, we do not trust His provision. For you cannot take love, you cannot take hapiness. It can only be received. And He Who has not withheld from us His only begotten Son, will not withhold from us any good. He is worthy of our trust, Who has no need to prove, but has given all. So then, in that moment of temptation, look to Him, the Author and Finisher of our faith, to provide for every need. For He is only too ready to provide what we truly desire, and to fulfill the deepest longings of our hearts in Him. Posted Sat, Jan 14, 2006 under /follow category [permanent link] |
